Mount Manaslu expedition

Manaslu expedition, Manaslu (8156) known as Kutang, is the eighth highest mountain in the world. Mt. Manaslu Located about forty miles east then the Annapurna (the tenth highest mountain in the world) Himalayan range . The mountain’s long ridges and valley glaciers offer feasible approaches from all directions, and it culminates in a peak that towers steeply above its surrounding landscape, and is a dominant feature when seen from a far.

In the past, people used to know  mount Manaslu as a Kutang. ‘Tang’ is a Tibetan word which means the flat place. It thereby describes the mountain’s general summit. The name Manaslu is derived from the Sanskrit word Manasa and can be roughly translated as Mountain of the Spirit. Climbing Mt. Manaslu takes more time than other 8000m Peaks in Nepal due to long approach to reach to the base of the mountain however to make it shorter we can use a helicopter as an alternative way.  Normally, four camps will be set up in the approach of the mountain. There will be a few stretches of steep climbing and crevasses from Camp I to Camp II. Slippery snow climbing is required from Camp II to Camp III. Avalanches are a threat from Camp III to Camp IV.

The first ascent of  Mt. Manaslu expedition was made in 1956 by T. Imanishi and Gyalzen Norbu. This mountain was not climbed for the next one and half decade. In 1971, Japanese team made a second successful ascent. There are half dozens established routes in this mountains these days. In the climbing history, the south face of this mountain is said to be very tough.
